Territorialité : Concept ou paradigme en géographie sociale ?

Cet article explore l’incertitude conceptuelle de la géographie sociale, souvent confondue avec la géographie humaine, et déplore l’absence de théories générales pour relier les pratiques géographiques à une connaissance méthodologique enrichie. Il souligne le manque d’une théorie générale de l’écogenèse territoriale expliquant les processus de territorialisation, déterritorialisation et reterritorialisation. L’auteur propose un programme de réflexion basé sur une « utopie fondatrice » géographico-mathématique. Cette approche heuristique substitue une construction utopique à la réalité pour identifier les éléments pertinents d’une future théorisation, en s’appuyant sur l’exemple d’un groupe privilégiant le triangle équilatéral. Cette démarche permet de définir la territorialité comme l’ensemble des relations qu’un groupe entretient avec l’extériorité et l’altérité pour occuper et modeler l’espace. L’étude démontre la nécessité d’une théorie écogénétique du territoire pour comprendre comment un territoire se structure, se déstructure et se restructure.

This article explores the conceptual uncertainty of social geography, often confused with human geography, and laments the absence of general theories linking geographical practices to enriched methodological knowledge. It highlights the lack of a general theory of territorial ecogenesis explaining the processes of territorialization, deterritorialization, and reterritorialization. The author proposes a reflection program based on a « foundational utopia » with a geographico-mathematical nature. This heuristic approach substitutes a utopian construction for reality to identify relevant elements for future theorization, using the example of a group favoring the equilateral triangle. This approach allows defining territoriality as the set of relationships a group maintains with exteriority and alterity to occupy and shape space. The study demonstrates the imperative need for an ecogenetic theory of territory to understand how a territory structures, de-structures, and re-structures itself.
