This study critically examines the precarious socio-linguistic and cultural position of the San ethnic minorities in Botswana, arguing for an urgent decolonization of the mind. It highlights how post-colonial dynamics, including resource exploitation and socio-political hegemonies, perpetuate a state of dependence akin to colonial subjugation for the San communities. Employing critical theories, the research demonstrates that the absence of genuine mental decolonization prevents the liberation of these marginalized groups, leading to their continued social and linguistic endangerment. The findings underscore the imperative for policies that respect and preserve the cultural and linguistic heritage of the San, challenging the dominant narratives that often overlook their unique challenges.
